Tucker Carlson Guest Blames Universities And ‘Cultural Marxism’ For Existence Of Trans People

It’s no secret that ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson hates transgender people. On his Tucker on X show he can’t resist taking jabs at the trans community, even during discussions of unrelated topics. On the latest episode Carlson devoted nearly 50 minutes to interviewing a man named Chris Moritz who peddled anti-trans conspiracy theories.

Moritz, whom Carlson described as a “longtime investment banker and policy guy,” does not appear to have any expertise on treating transgender patients. But, like all of Carlson’s guests, he told the host what he wanted to hear — which is that gender-affirming care does not work, that it should not be offered to minors, and that being transgender is “anti-God.”

Gender-affirming care is life-saving and medically necessary treatment for gender dysphoria — the “feeling of discomfort or distress” people feel when their “gender identity differs from their sex assigned at birth.” And every major medical association recognizes that gender-affirming care “improv[es] the physical health and mental well-being of transgender individuals.”

Moritz told Carlson that “the Biden administration has kind of tacitly endorsed genital reconstructive surgery for minors on a case-by-case basis,” and cited assistant secretary of health Admiral Rachel Levine. Genital surgery is reserved for patients who are 18-years-old according to guidelines by WPATH and the Endocrine Society.

And PolitiFact rated a claim that Levine supported such surgeries for minors as “false.”

Both Moritz and Carlson falsely equated genital — or bottom — surgery with female genital mutilation.

“Female genital mutilation. FGM. This was something your garden-variety NPR donor was very upset about like ten years ago. I haven’t heard anybody mention female genital mutilation in the United States in quite some time now. Is that because we now officially engage in it?” Carlson asked. “Of course. We export it to the rest of the world,” Moritz replied.

According to the World Health Organization, FGM consists of “procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.”

Feigning shock, Carlson said, “I thought it was the Muslims who had these crazy, radical ideologies and they were exporting female genital mutilation. And now it’s the West?” Moritz pointed out that in Iran people can actually receive gender reassignment surgery, but often as a supposed treatment for homosexuality. Transgender people in Iran also face widespread discrimination.

But Moritz also claimed that it is a “very-quietly held, but widely-held, view, I think, amongst the LGB that transgenderism is anti-LGB.” Carlson said, “Well of course it is.”

Moritz also blamed a variety of entities for the existence of gender-affirming care and transgender people, singling out the Tawani Foundation. The Tawani Foundation was founded by Jennifer Pritzker, the cousin of Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker — although Moritz misidentifies her as J.B.’s sister. While the Tawani Foundation has used some grant money to support pro-LGBTQ causes, the Jewish Pritzker family has been the subject of anti-trans and antisemitic conspiracies.

An article in Tablet by Jennifer Bilek — an antisemitic conspiracy theorist who’s promoted the work of white nationalists — asserted that the Pritzkers were funding the “broad acceptance and propagation of synthetic sex identities.” During a 2022 debate between J.B. Pritzker and Darren Bailey, Bailey brought up the conspiracy and claimed that “Governor Pritzker’s family foundation is funding experimental gender surgeries on children across the nation.”

Moritz told Carlson that the Tawani Foundation “has established grants all over the world to propagate transgenderism at the university levels, funding legal battles, and legislative initiatives.” He also claimed that the Tawani Foundation and the Wells Fargo Foundation worked together to “promote” “transgenderism” in the U.S. military.

When asked by Carlson what the “motive” of “corporate America” is for “getting behind something so obviously destructive,” Moritz ultimately singled out universities that have been corrupted by “cultural Marxism.” Cultural Marxism is another antisemitic conspiracy theory which blames a group of Jewish intellectuals for undermining American society.

“Corporate America gets its marching orders from HR departments,” Moritz said. “HR departments get their marching orders from universities. Universities are — we know what the culture and mores are of our elite institutions. And even these medical associations and boards, WPATH included, have strong affiliations with universities. These ideas are coming out of universities.”

“And why that is?” he continued. “There’s many reasons why. I would argue it’s a kind of extension of post-modernist cultural Marxism. Because transgenderism, if we’re looking at it philosophically, is ultimately about rejecting what is a foundational principle — philosophical principle — of Western civilization which goes back to Aristotle, that there is such a thing as objective truth and reality.”

It should go without saying but being transgender is not a philosophical matter.

Parroting the past rhetoric of Carlson himself, Moritz declared that being transgender is “very anti-God” because “you’re assigned a gender and that can be changed by medical science.”

Carlson then likened gender-affirming care to human sacrifice. As he told Moritz, “It also looks a lot like human sacrifice to me. I mean, castrate your sons and you’ll somehow benefit? I mean, most people, I would say, as long as people have existed, kinda want their children to reproduce and sort of carry on the line. It’s like a core human desire. And this ends it.”
