Anti-Muslim Congressional Candidate Laura Loomer Praises Immigration Moratorium On White Nationalist YouTube Show

On the April 25, 2020 episode of the white nationalist YouTube show Happy Homelands, anti-Muslim activist Laura Loomer made a guest appearance and called for an extension of President Trump’s immigration moratorium. Loomer, who was banned from Twitter in 2018, is currently mounting a congressional run.

Although Loomer has repeatedly accused Muslim representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib of antisemitism, this is her second appearance on a show co-hosted by far-right YouTube personality Tarl Warwick (a.k.a. “Styxhexenhammer666”) and white nationalist Paul Ramsey (a.k.a. “RamZPaul”).

(During her first appearance, Ramsey’s co-host was Finnish white nationalist Tiina Wiik.)

Ramsey has spoken at conferences by the white nationalist hate group American Renaissance, and has repeatedly tweeted disparaging comments about the Holocaust. For example, he’s called the Holocaust the “modern religion of the West” and a “modern secular religion.”

On one occasion he asked, “How can there be so many [Holocaust] survivors? Is every Jew that age by default a Holocaust survivor?”

While taking viewer questions Ramsey read one about President Trump’s recent immigration moratorium. While some white nationalists supported the temporary measure, Ramsey said he was “disappointed” in the result. Loomer said that she was in favor of it, and wanted it to extend past the COVID-19 crisis.

“I support President Trump’s shutdown of immigration and I think that it’s a great idea,” Loomer said, “and I think it’s something, too, that we should even look into when a lot of this coronavirus passes because I think it’s central to keeping America American.”

(Loomer’s xenophobic call for “keeping America American” unsurprisingly originated with the Ku Klux Klan. In 1924 the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan published a recruitment pamphlet called Why You Should Become a Klansman: Of Interest to White, Protestant, Native Born Americans who Want to Keep America American.)

Loomer added that, “[W]hen it comes to protecting our borders and keeping America safe, [then] cracking down on the opioid crisis and allowing our economy to recover, I think that this is a policy that may be extended past coronavirus. I think it’s something we oughta have a discussion about.”

Both co-hosts agreed, and Warwick said that the “basic idea actually makes sense because it’ll allow the unemployed U.S. workers to be reabsorbed more quickly.” He also said that he disagreed with the current lockdown aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Loomer replied that she doesn’t “understand the logic behind wanting immigrants to come into our country while Americans are under lockdown.” And she complained that while “Americans can’t go to work” and “make money to feed their families,” there are people who want to allow immigrants into the country to “freely walk around.”

While the best course of action is usually to ignore Laura Loomer and her ridiculous stunts — like the time she handcuffed herself to the door of Twitter’s New York headquarters — that is unfortunately no longer an option.

She has thrust herself into the spotlight by running for Congress, and now a bigot who referred to herself as a “#proudIslamophobe” and Muslims as “savages” has the backing of the Florida GOP. She has also outraised her Democratic opponent in a district where President Trump resides.

Moreover, the president himself retweeted messages from a pro-Loomer account supporting her congressional run.

Which means that Republicans must ask themselves more than just whether or not they’re comfortable being associated with a woman who said Muslims should not be allowed to hold political office. They have to once again decide if they can stomach a Republican who openly associates with white nationalists.
