Rep. Josh Schriver Doubles Down On White Supremacist ‘Great Replacement’ Conspiracy

Last week Rep. Josh Schriver of Michigan was condemned for sharing a meme on X endorsing the white supremacist “Great Replacement” conspiracy. But instead of moving on, Schriver — with the help of Jack Posobiec, who first posted the meme — is doubling down. On Human Events Daily, Schriver claimed there is an “intentional” plan to replace white Americans.

Schriver reposted a meme by Posobiec which showed a world map with nearly every continent covered by black figures. At the bottom was the phrase “The great replacement!” — referring to the white supremacist conspiracy theory which posits that there is a plot, usually by Jewish elites, to replace white people in Western countries with immigrants of color.

This conspiracy has inspired multiple acts of terrorism. The perpetrators of mass shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand, Poway, CA, El Paso, TX, and Buffalo, NY all mentioned the “Great Replacement” by name in their online manifestos. And the white supremacists who marched in Charlottesville, VA referenced it with their chants of “You will not replace us!” and “Jews will not replace us!”

Schriver was rebuked by his colleagues, and on Monday he was stripped of his office staff and committee assignment. Two days later the Michigan House voted 98-5 to adopt a resolution condemning Schriver’s white supremacist rhetoric without mentioning him by name. All the while, Schriver has been posting through it.

On X he’s claimed that America is “being invaded by the millions,” declared that “All Lives Matter,” called attacks against him “racist,” accused the media of trying to “start a race war,” decried his critics’ “anti-white agenda,” insisted that he’s “not a racist,” said he was “falsely labeled a ‘raaacist!’,” and put out a statement claiming the U.N. is trying to “replace Whites with non-Whites.”

But yesterday Schriver found a sympathetic ear with Jack Posobiec, a far-right conspiracy theorist and Neo-Nazi collaborator.

Posobiec began the segment by defending the meme he posted, which he said was simply “talking about the demographic change in the United States as relates to the open border policies of our current government.”

This defense was undercut by white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, who lauded Posobiec for posting it. In a recent livestream Fuentes said that Posobiec’s meme was “explicit” and “extremely on-the-nose.” He added that Posobiec “might as well just post Madison Grant” — the white supremacist and eugenicist who, in 1916, authored The Passing of the Great Race.

“So, when I posted this image of — highlighting this issue, and you posted essentially a graph [emoji] talking about it, why was it that you chose to highlight this, and why do you think this is something that affects not only our country but the area that you represent?” Posobiec asked. Schriver responded by blaming Democrats for his predicament.

“Well there’s numerous instances of Democrats talking about replacement migration — its effects, the demographic changes, essentially how that changes the identity of the country, the voting blocs and the ruling class, and essentially keeps them in power at this stage,” he said.

“And so I was alluding to the fact that our demographics are being shifted in an intentional manner to change our demographics and essentially secure power for the current regime. And that’s really my intention.”

Posobiec then cut to a clip package of what he called “the Democrats agreeing with Rep. Schriver.” The clips, of course, were not what Posobiec said they were. Instead he showed pundits and politicians talking about demographic changes in America, particularly as it related to the percentage of non-Hispanic whites, which declined according to recent census data.

It was a rhetorical sleight-of-hand meant to frame any discussions of demographic trends as evidence for the “Great Replacement.” But what the “Great Replacement” says is that there is an intentional plan to replace white people through immigration and other means — such as the promotion of abortion, LGBTQ rights, and interracial relationships.

And by obscuring what the “Great Replacement” actually is, Posobiec can falsely frame it as a typical partisan issue that Democrats support and Republicans oppose.

Schriver told Posobiec that it’s “no coincidence that you and Tucker [Carlson] and Vivek [Ramaswamy] and [Donald] Trump and me have been talking about this.” He added that there is an “intentional move for this,” and that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was using the controversy over his post to “steal 15 electoral votes away from Trump in 2024.”
