Dave Reilly: Opponents Of Idaho’s Death Penalty Bill Might Be Pedophiles

The Idaho House recently passed HB 515, a bill which would allow for people who commit sex crimes against children under the age of 12 to be sentenced to death. The bill is flagrantly unconstitutional, as a co-sponsor acknowledges, but is being championed by the far-right, including white nationalist Dave Reilly.

Reilly, who unsuccessfully ran for Kootenai County, Idaho school board in 2021 with local Republican support, defended the bill during an interview with Holocaust denier Stew Peters. Reilly suggested that opponents of the bill may be pedophiles themselves, and promoted the debunked Pizzagate conspiracy theory.

Peters, who started his monologue with a graphic falsely conflating drag queens with pedophiles, asked Reilly for his thoughts about HB 515. Reilly claimed that the bill is “great,” but doesn’t go “nearly far enough” for his liking. Reilly said he wanted a death sentence to be mandatory instead of discretionary.

When Peters asked what motivates people to oppose laws like HB 515, or one that would establish a mandatory minimum sentence for sex crimes against children.

“Well, I guess — the only thing that makes any sense to me is that our leaders are doing some of this heinous activity, and that they’re afraid that if they ever get caught, you know, they want a lenient sentence,” Reilly said.

“That’s what it seems like to me. I mean we know about Jeffrey Epstein, we know about how there’s kompromat on most of the people in Washington, D.C. We know that they’ve human trafficked young girls, to get them in photos with powerful politicians, corporations, the media,” he added.

Reilly even declared that Pizzagate, a long-debunked conspiracy theory that a child sex trafficking ring was being operated out of a D.C. pizza parlor, was actually true. “They said Pizzagate was a hoax. It wasn’t,” he asserted. “They said that all of this moral panic about pedophilia is nonsense. Well it’s not. I’m sorry.”
