Sara Gonzales Uses BlazeTV Show To Promote Avowed White Nationalist

On the Jan. 31, 2024 episode of her show Sara Gonzales Unfiltered, BlazeTV host Sara Gonzales joined the chorus of far-right voices attacking Rep. Ilhan Omar over a mistranslated speech. During a panel discussion about the controversy, Gonzales introduced John Doyle, an avowed white nationalist, as the show’s “Somali expert.”

Doyle boasts close ties to Nick Fuentes and his racist “groyper” movement, and once remarked that “being assassinated was like the best thing that could have happened” to Martin Luther King Jr.

Gonzales began the segment by playing a short clip of Rep. Ilhan Omar telling constituents that they have the “ability to make an impact on where our nation is headed — not only here in the United States, but even in our nation back home.” Gonzales also referenced another clip of Omar that caught the ire of conservatives.

According to Gonzales, who didn’t play the second clip, Rep. Omar talked about “prioritizing Somalia’s interests in Congress.” And while she was basing this on a mistranslation of a speech that Rep. Omar gave, right-wing pundits and politicians — including failed presidential candidate Ron DeSantis — used it as an excuse to call for her deportation.

Gonzales also attacked the new design of Minnesota’s state flag, repeating the conspiracy theory that it was redesigned “to resemble Somalia’s flag.” The graphic that appeared on the screen, however, did not include the national flag of Somalia — which is light blue with a five-pointed star. Instead, it showed the flag of Puntland, an autonomous state within Somalia.

And at any rate, the flag of Puntland, which is green, white, and light blue with a five-pointed star, looks nothing like the new Minnesota state flag design. Nonetheless, she claimed that they are “literally trying to change Minnesota into Somaliland” — an unrecognized state in the Horn of Africa.

Gonzales complained that “Republicans will expel George Santos for God knows what,” while refusing to expel Rep. Omar “because they’re too scared of being called racist and xenophobic.”

“There’s no way. There’s no way that would fly if it was a white person,” she fumed. “Absolutely no way. And because the color of her skin is brown, now she can go out and brag to everyone that she is literally advocating for another country on top of America. And nothing is going to happen. Nothing will happen to her. Nothing.”

She then turned to her guest, white nationalist John Doyle, whom she dubbed the “Somali expert.” Doyle claimed that Rep. Omar doesn’t view herself as an American, but rather as a “colonist.” He added that “a lot of these immigrants do that,” and criticized people like Sen. Chuck Schumer for “advocat[ing] on behalf of Israeli interests.”

Gonzales’ other guest, radio host Chad Prather, also chimed in to say that Rep. Omar’s “towel’s on too tight” — referring to her hijab. He also repeated a claim he made on X (formerly Twitter), that “the most privileged class of people in America today are Black women with power or money.”

“You can’t say anything about ’em bein’ Black ’cause that’s racist. You can’t say anything about bein’ women ’cause that’s misogynist,” he complained. “Well I’ll add one more: If you’re from another country, apparently. ‘Cause now you can also be called a xenophobe. Well I’m not any of those things, I’m just intolerant.”

Doyle also said he someone corrected him online when he used the term “Somalian-American” instead of Somali-American — a fact he didn’t take well. “I was like ‘You don’t get to decide that,'” he recounted. “Like, you are a guest, frankly. Like you don’t get to tell me how to speak my language. Like, honestly I regret that we taught it to you…”
