On May 24, 2017, Breitbart News ran an article by conservative firebrand/white nationalist Ann Coulter that attacked Middle Eastern and African people as “primitives” and called for the use of nuclear weapons against majority Muslim cities.
In her article, “Rome Burns — Nero Worries About Pyrophobia,” Coulter responded to the deadly terrorist attack in Manchester by calling for the Left to stop paying attention to Trump’s various scandals, especially those involving Russia, so that we can focus on blowing up foreigners again.
Coulter criticized MSNBC for “concentrat[ing] on the real news of the night — TRUMP’S COLLUSION WITH RUSSIA — as children screamed in the background in footage from Manchester,” and accused CBS and NBC of withholding the name of the perpetrator in order to “keep us in suspense for as long as possible about whether it was a Muslim or a Christian.”
The reason they didn’t “broadcast the bomber’s name, religion or ethnicity in their headlines,” she alleged, was to prevent people from noticing “that the West is deliberately importing people who enjoy killing kids.” Although Salman Abedi was hardly “imported” from any Middle Eastern or African nation. Rather, he was born in Manchester — meaning Abedi was a wholly homegrown threat. Not that this matters to Coulter, who wrote:
According to ABC News, the bomber’s father, Ramadan Abedi (not to be confused with Huma Abedin) was a member of an al-Qaida-linked Islamic group in Libya. For this, he was accepted as a “refugee” by the British government.
First, Ramadan Abedi and his wife Samia Tabbal fled Gaddafi’s regime and traveled to the UK in the early ’90s. The elder Abedi only became a “member of an al-Qaida-linked Islamic group” in 2011 when he traveled back to Libya to fight against Muammar Gaddafi alongside the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG).
Second, it seems as if the only reason she mentioned Huma Abedin — who is of Indian/Pakistani descent — in this context is to give a wink and a nod to racists who can’t tell brown with funny-sounding names apart. And by “a wink and a nod” I mean her joke had all the subtlety of a jackhammer.
And then one of the country’s biggest cheerleaders for war in Afghanistan and Iraq went after conservatives for sending American soldiers to fight in “some godforsaken nation of primitives”:
While liberals are impatient to get back to their murderous immigration policies, conservatives are pining for war. And really, who wouldn’t want to send ground troops to Syria after our tremendous successes in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Why do we need to fight ISIS in Syria again? I forget. How about we NOT send U.S. troops to some godforsaken nation of primitives?
My reasoning is: It will cost us trillions of dollars; we will sacrifice the lives of an untold number of our best young men in combat (and little girls — thanks, liberals!); and we will accomplish absolutely nothing, apart from creating a new stream of “refugees” and making the primitives even angrier with us, if that’s possible.
Historically, starting wars in the Third World has not proved salutary.
And then Ms. Coulter offered her own advice to President Trump: Take the “humane” route of killing “a bunch” of Muslims “for revenge” and then “concentrate on our own problems.”
And from that point on, she added, we ought to respond to terrorist attacks by “drop[ping] a nuke on some majority-Muslim city involved in terrorism” and “deport[ing] one Ninth Circuit judge.” Because no Ann Coulter article is complete without salivating over war crimes that would have made Himmler blush:
The most humane response to terrorist attacks in the West is to kill a bunch of them for revenge, and then concentrate on our own problems. Instead of sending ground troops to Syria, we should be sending them to San Diego.
Our policy following every Islamic terrorist attack anyplace in the West should be the following:
1) We drop a nuke on some majority-Muslim city involved in terrorism.
2) We add six months to the immigration moratorium (which Trump promised us in his Aug. 16, 2015, immigration policy paper, the greatest political document since the Magna Carta).
3) We deport one Ninth Circuit judge.
She ends her screed by chastising liberals for treating politics like “a game” since Trump’s election, and writing, “Islamic terrorists are killing little girls in England. This isn’t a game.”
Perhaps, then, she should try aiming for actual solutions to the threat of terrorism instead of her usual bluster. And perhaps Breitbart, which has been the subject of a prolonged boycott for its promotion of racism and misogyny, should stop running her columns until she does.
