Now that Milo resigned from Breitbart, perhaps it’s time for another look at the black hole of human decency that is the Breitbart comment section. This time, Breitbart readers reacted to an article by noted white nationalist Virginia Hale titled “Sweden: Looting, Cars Torched, Police Attacked as Riots Break Out in Migrant Suburb.” Unsurprisingly, Breitbart is using the riot in the highly segregated suburb of Rinkeby to justify Donald Trump’s asinine assertion that a terrorist attack (or some act of violence) had just occurred in Sweden.
Nothing had occurred, though. And, as is usually the case with Trump’s speeches, he makes off-the-cuff remarks that are often so vague that people will read facts into them to justify them later on. This is no exception.
As Hale writes,
Riots broke out on Monday night in the suburb of Rinkeby, where a majority of residents were born overseas, just hours after the country’s Prime Minister attacked U.S President Donald J. Trump for linking mass migration with rising violence in Sweden.
In other words, Trump was correct in making the confusing statement about an unnamed incident happening in Sweden, because after he said it, something did happen. So it doesn’t matter if Trump stretches the truth from time to time or is an outright pathological liar. As long as we get a silly ex post facto justification. And the Breitbart readership swallows it hook, line, and sinker.
John Smith Sr. draws a connection between Muslim and Black Lives Matter “radicals” who will be “even more active” in the U.S.:
This commenter feels a weird sort of sympathy for mass murderer Anders Breivik — or at least for his motive:
drperry weighs in on the “real” Five Pillars of Islam which, apparently, include “enslavement, torture, murder, clitorectomies, and rape.” Good thing he’s evidently never read the Bible, otherwise his head would explode:
Some Breitbart fans wanted to adopt the tactics of another mass murderer, this time from the 15th Century:
The violent, Islamophobic rhetoric is only punctuated by some old-fashioned, John Birch-style ranting about UN “blue helmets” invading America:
And a crackpot who believes Snopes, the fact-checking website, is owned by George Soros. I rate that as false:
I think it would be fair to say 95% of people who complain about the “evils” of the Qur’an have never read a page of it — despite repeatedly claiming they have:
Sorry, bro, you don’t get points for finding isolated quotes from Jihad Watch or Bare Naked Islam and pretending you read the whole book:
Lex and cv still believe in the Fox News-promoted myth of Muslim “no-go zones” where police are too afraid to enter:
And, this being Breitbart, there’s always someone who will drag his antiquated “race and IQ” bullshit into the discussion because he read The Bell Curve 20 years ago:
Fear not, for knowhowe has an unbiased opinion of Muslims based on totally real experiences:
Finally, in a particularly revealing exchange, Viking — who claims to be from Norway — also swears that “no-go-zones” are real, and says, “If you object to immigrant crime, muslim [sic] violence and your taxes being used to support people that despise you; then you are not racist, you are a normal, average person that wants to live in a civilized, peaceful and prosperous country.” In response, DannyTom recommends he become a police officer, since “All countries with endangered Caucasian populations will soon be in a civil war against the rioting Muslims.” Oh, and he thinks “storm troopers” will be necessary:
