Milo Yiannopoulos’ Fall from Grace Ends with His Resignation from Hate Site Breitbart News

This past week has been a whirlwind for obnoxious, right-wing troll Milo Yiannopoulos who, today, unceremoniously resigned from his position as editor at Breitbart News. Always an online cesspool of bigotry, conspiracies, and outright lies, the site took an even darker turn thanks to Yiannopoulos, whose numerous articles blasted women as unintelligent and talentless, Muslims as enemies of the state, and transgender people as mentally ill.

In fact, whenever a news outlet reported an outrageous headline from Breitbart, you can be sure that, nine times out of ten, Milo was responsible for it.

But after disturbing comments made during a podcast in January 2016 resurfaced — comments condoning or making light of the rape of children — Milo finally went too far in the eyes of his business partners and the Republican establishment. After a much anticipated appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher, he quickly found himself disinvited from CPAC 2017 and with a cancelled book deal from Simon & Schuster.

And now, he has lost his job as chief hate peddler at the insufferable Breitbart network, which specializes in racially charged and anti-LGBT articles. According to reports, several staffers threatened to tender their resignation if Milo were not fired or given some form of punishment for his statements on child abuse. Instead, Milo opted to resign in disgrace, complimenting his former employers in a written statement, and blasting the controversy as “a cynical media witch hunt from people who do not care about children.”

Do not, however, think for one second that this is the last we’ve seen of Milo Yiannopoulos. If costing a bigot a job were enough to rid society of him, we’d never have heard of professional homophobe Frank Turek or misogynist tech-bro Pax Dickinson. They continue to write books, give lectures, propagandize on social media, and work on other terrible projects. No, the only way to rid ourselves of Milo and others like him is to abandon the ideas that make him popular. There will always be a niche market for fame-seeking bigots. We just have to work to make it as small as possible.

So enjoy the schadenfreude for now, because Milo will inevitably return like a recurrent STI. Until then, here’s some going away music to celebrate one of the nastiest websites losing one of its nastiest writers. (Sorry but the guy who usually makes fun of him is sick.)
