Tragic news out of France today. Several gunmen and suicide bombers launched gruesome attacks in the city of Paris, killing an estimated 100 people according to the most recent news reports. Already social media is flooded with statements of solidarity. President Obama condemned the attacks “an outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians” at a press conference this evening, and characterized them as not just attacks on Paris, but attacks on “all of humanity and the universal values we share.” This coordinated assault on French society is horrific and heartbreaking. I can safely say that all civilized people stand with the people of France in such a trying time.
There are some, however, who are exploiting this devastating tragedy to push their own sinister agenda. For example, the hashtag #ParisIsBurning is being used by supporters of ISIS to celebrate and take credit for the massacre. Similarly, far-right racists here in America are using it to propose the mass expulsion of Muslims and non-white immigrants from Europe and America. I’ve compiled some of the foulest examples I could find on Twitter.
Here’s Jared Taylor, the white nationalist founder of American Renaissance and the New Century Foundation:
Paul Ray Ramsey, the racist videoblogger better known as RamzPaul said he has “no sympathy” for the victims:
Responding to someone who said that the attackers, whoever they may be, do not reflect their religion or ethnicity, Vox Day claimed proponents of multiculturalism had blood on their hands:
He also expressed admiration for Norwegian terrorist Anders Breivik, who slaughtered 77 of his own countrymen in his crusade against Muslims and multiculturalism:
Lawyer/men’s rights sympathizer Mike Cernovich joined the racist mob as well:
Here are some other white supremacist/xenophobic morons, many of whom are using the hashtag #whitegenocide:
